ArcGIS Desktop TLS Patch

Summary

Esri is making configuration information and, where necessary, software updates to support TLS 1.2. As part of improving ArcGIS Online security, Esri is planning to require TLS 1.2 connections for ArcGIS Online services in the upcoming months This Patch enables Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 connections, when accessing ArcGIS Online services such as basemaps, geoprocessing services and The Living Atlas from ArcGIS Desktop.


Description

EsriĀ® announces the ArcGIS Desktop TLS Patch. Esri is making configuration information and, where necessary, software updates to support TLS 1.2. As part of improving ArcGIS Online security, Esri is planning to require TLS 1.2 connections for ArcGIS Online services in the upcoming months This Patch enables Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 connections, when accessing ArcGIS Online services such as basemaps, geoprocessing services and The Living Atlas from ArcGIS Desktop. For a detailed description of this issue, please see Esri Support TLS 1.2 overview page. This patch deals specifically with the issue listed below under Issues Addressed with this patch.

Important Note: For ArcGIS versions 10.3.1 and earlier, please see the technical article How To: Configure Windows to use TLS 1.2 for ArcGIS Desktop for information regarding required Microsoft Updates for your operating system version.

Installing this patch on Windows

Installation Steps:

ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1, 10.6, 10.5.1, 10.5, 10.4.1, 10.4, 10.3.1, 10.3, 10.2.2, or 10.2.1 must be installed before installing this patch.

  1. Download the appropriate file to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.

  2. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location.
  3. Double-click ArcGIS-<Version>-DT-TLS-Patch.msp to start the setup process.

    NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the setup installation, you can start the setup installation manually by using the following command:

    msiexec.exe /p [location of Patch]\ArcGIS-<Version>-DT-TLS-Patch.msp

 

Uninstalling this patch on Windows

  • To uninstall this patch on Windows, open the Windows Control Panel and navigate to installed programs. Make sure that "View installed updates" (upper left side of the Programs and Features dialog) is active. Select the patch name from the programs list and click Uninstall to remove the patch.

November 29, 2018: The ArcGIS Desktop 10.5.1 version is now available for download.

December 3, 2018: The ArcGIS Desktop 10.4.1 version is now available for download.

December 10, 2018: The ArcGIS Desktop 10.5 version is now available for download.

December 11, 2018: The ArcGIS Desktop 10.6 version is now available for download.

December 20, 2018: The ArcGIS Desktop 10.3.1 version is now available for download.

December 27, 2018: The ArcGIS Desktop 10.3 version is now available for download.

December 28, 2018: The ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.2 version is now available for download.

January 25, 2019: A note has been added for ArcGIS 10.3.1 and earlier versions to note required Microsoft Updates.

February 19, 2019: ArcGIS 10.3.1 and earlier downloads have been replaced with B versions that detect if the required Microsoft Updates are installed.

April 11, 2019: The ArcGIS 10.5 and 10.5.1 downloads have been replaced with B versions that address the following issue:

BUG-000121298 - TLS Patch 1.2 for ArcGIS Desktop 10.5.x overwrites the 'Templates path' setting with a value of '1' instead of showing the full directory.

How to identify which ArcGIS products are installed

To determine which ArcGIS products are installed, choose the appropriate version of the PatchFinder utility for your environment and run it from your local machine. PatchFinder will list all products, hot fixes, and patches installed on your local machine.
